A diamond trader recently made a successful attempt to flee from the custody of his abductors. The victim's car was stopped by an another car, two persons barged in and took custody of victim's car. The victim made a gutsy effort to jump off from the running car and free himself. He then approached the MHB Colony police station after which four persons were arrested in the said crime. The gang had plans to kidnap the victim and demand Rs5 crore as ransom from his family.

The arrested quartet has been identified as Mukesh Parmar (40), Ramesh Parte (38), Bosnarayan Pandey (31) and Kejul Morbiya (24).

According to joint commissioner of police, crime, Atulchandra Kulkarni, on March 16, around 8.15am, the victim had left his Borivli (W) residence in his car and was on the way to his Dahisar-based diamond factory. While passing from the Devki Nagar junction in Borivli, a Wagon R car overtook his vehicle and stopped in front of his car. Two persons then came out of the car and forcibly sat in victim's car.

"The accused then assaulted the victim and forced him to sit in the back-seat and took control of car. Meanwhile, the Wagon R, in which two other persons were present, kept following victim's car and they moved towards Dahisar. Those in victim's car then snatched victim's gold chain and mobile phone. The victim then opened the door of his car and started shouting for help. While his car lowered the speed in order to overtake a rickshaw ahead, the victim made a valiant effort and jumped off the car," said additional commissioner of police, KMM Prasanna.

He then went MHB Colony police station and lodged a complaint. The Kandivli unit of crime branch began a parallel probe in the matter.

"On receipt of specific information that suspects would be arriving at Kulupwadi Junction in Borivli (E) on Monday, a trap was laid and two of the suspects were apprehended. They then spilled the beans about their other associates. While the third accomplice was held from Pathan Wadi in Malad, the fourth was nabbed from Kashimira," said assistant commissioner of police, Sunil Deshmukh.

"Their questioning revealed that a former employee, who worked at the victim's diamond polishing factory had tipped them about the victim's schedule. Their plan was to kidnap the victim, keep him captive in a Vasai-based go-down and demand ransom of Rs5 crore from his family. They also admitted of having abandoning victim's car near national park in Borivli. The said car has been found. One of the arrested accused also has a murder case registered against his name. Two more persons are wanted in the case," said Deshmukh.
