The LT Marg police station on Friday registered a case of dacoity against four armed unknown people who allegedly broke into the office of a cloth merchant and fled with cash and valuables worth Rs15.36 lakh.

The LT Marg police said on Friday around 11.30pm four unidentified men with guns and choppers entered the merchant's office located in Jaihind building on Aatmaram Merchant road. The accused allegedly threatened the seven workers living on the office premises, tied them up and locked them in separate rooms.

"The accused had come completely prepared for the crime; all of them were carrying bags filled with weapons. After locking all the workers, they broke open the safe and fled with all the cash and valuables in it," said an officer.

According to the complaint filed with the police, the accused fled with Rs14.2 lakh cash, mobile phones worth Rs90,000 and DVR of CCTV cameras worth Rs12,000. The police said though the accused took the DVR of a CCTV camera with them, another on the ground floor of the building captured them entering and exiting.

"We have got some CCTV footage and are investigating the matter. We have not ruled out the workers' involvement and will be able to say something concrete about an inside job after a through investigation," said an officer.
