38 bikes, 2 cars gutted in fire at Currey Road

According to the police, when the residents of Vighnaharta society on Mahadev Palav Marg at Currey road were sound asleep, they heard a loud noise followed by fire and smoke from their parking.

The residents of Vighnaharta co-operative society woke up to a loud noise and a bright light emitting from parking of their building in the wee hours of Monday. As the residents rushed to the parking, they witnessed a number of bikes and cars, parked in the building, were set ablaze. The Kalachowky police has registered a case of mischief against unknown person and have launched an investigation into the incident.

According to the police, when the residents of Vighnaharta society on Mahadev Palav Marg at Currey road were sound asleep, they heard a loud noise followed by fire and smoke from their parking. When the residents rushed to the spot they found that a number of two-wheelers and cars were on fire.

"The locals informed the fire brigade as well as to us after which we rushed to the spot. Residents along with the help of other locals and fire brigade started dousing the fire and save other vehicles that were not on fire yet," said a police officer. He added, "The society have around 540 families living there from last three years and there are around 250 vehicles parked in the parking owned by the residents."

Luckily, most of the other vehicles that were parked did not catch fire as the fire brigade and the locals managed to remove them in nick of time. "A total of 38 two-wheelers and two cars were gutted," said Dilip Ugale, senior police inspector from Kalachowky police station. He added further, "We have registered a case of mischief against unknown people and are investigating further."
