The Vikhroli Parksite police on Wednesday arrested a 37-year-old man for assaulting and then burning his partner’s body in Kanjurmarg. The police had on Tuesday recovered the completely charred body near Naval Dock Housing colony.
The police confirmed that a dispute following a homosexual encounter led to the murder. “We have arrested Harish Gosavi under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. A resident of a slum colony near IIT Powai, Gosavi worked with a private company as a commuter operator,” said Suresh Sakpal, senior inspector of the Vikhroli Parksite police station.
During interrogation, Gosavi revealed that he and the deceased, Yusuf Mulla (44), an auto driver, had been in a relationship for the past seven years and would frequently visit isolated spots in a jungle near the colony to have physical relations. Inspector Sakpal said that on the afternoon of January 26, the duo had gone to the aforementioned spot. There, they quarrelled, following which Gosavi hit Mulla on the head with a stone. Mulla immediately collapsed. Scared of being caught, Gosavi set Mulla’s body on fire before fleeing the spot.
