The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), which owns the Expressway in collaboration with the state highway police, has tied up with several organisations to make the Mumbai-Pune Expressway a 'zero fatality corridor'. In a study, MSRDC had also identified black spots which was the epicenter of accidents.

A report prepared on behalf of MSRDC had earlier revealed that it witnesses one death every three days because of 37 black spots that restrict view of drivers, steep roadside slopes, ineffective road signages and sharp turns.

"Majority of the accidents takes place in the early morning, between 3 am and 6 am, when drivers are mostly sleepy. Overall, after several awareness drives, motorists are getting sensitive but still the number of accidents have come down to mitigate the chances of casualties due to accidents," said a MSRDC official.

Meanwhile, MSRDC is also currently in process of appointing a private trust to run the trauma care centre near Ozarde on the Expressway that will help accidents victims get quick medical assistance in case of accidents.
