Thirty four residents of Sai Darshan Apartments in Nalasopara (East) have been suffering from vomiting, constipation and fever for the past three days. However, the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) after inspecting the site said that the water provided to the area is not contaminated.

“There are 24 flats in the two wings of the society and 34 residents are suffering from water-borne diseases. We contacted the water department to check the pipelines but they said that the water is not contaminated,” said the chairman of the building Prabhakar Kudalkar. He added that five of his family members including him have been afflicted.

Jayashree Vaishnav, a resident, said, “My entire family including me, my husband and two daughters (aged three and six) were suffering from vomiting, fever and constipation. When we checked with our family doctor, he confirmed that the infection was due to contaminated water.
A VVMC official from the water department, who inspected the site, denied the possibility of water contamination at the site.

“We conducted a thorough inspection and did not find any pipeline leakage or any contamination at the source. We even sanitised the water tanks and there is no chance that the residents fell ill because of contaminated water, said Deepak Naik, site supervisor,VVMC.
