At least 32 candidates from different political parties have filed their nominations on Tuesday for the upcoming ward committee elections of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Elections to the 17 ward committees of 24 civic wards are scheduled on April 16, 17 and 19.
While 10 candidates are from Congress, nine are from Shiv Sena, five from Bharatiya Janata Party, four from Nationalist Congress Party, and two are independent candidates. The Republican Party of India and Samajwadi Party have one candidate each in the fray.
For the committee comprising wards A, B and E, Congress' Manoj Jamsutkar and Shiv Sena's Ganesh Sanap have filed the nominations.
For the committee comprising C and D, BJP's Jyotsna Mehta has filed the nomination.
Similarly, for the ward committee comprising wards H-East and H-West, BJP's Alka Kerkar and Congress' Priyatama Sawant have been nominated.
Sources from the civic body say that the BJP wants their representative for the wards C, D and R central.
