Versova beach clean-up initiative has been a motivation for citizens to join hands to clean the filthy beach. After 87 weeks of beach clean-up initiative, the members have now started planting trees in the surrounding areas of the beach.
Over 300 coconut trees were planted by more than 200 volunteers on the 88th week of the clean-up drive on Saturday and Sunday, led by Afroz Shah, the lawyer who headed the clean-up initiative.
Speaking about the tree plantation drive, Shah said, "There is nothing more fulfilling then planting trees on the ocean front. The volunteers were enthusiastic to plant over 300 trees. Besides the clean-up drive, next week too we will plant coconut trees."
More 200 coconut trees will be planted near Versova jetty next week. "Post July, there will be a mass clean-up drive for which a plan will be prepared, and later we will conduct a clean-up along with the BMC, the United Nations and local residents," said Shah.
