In perhaps a first-of-its-kind initiative, three teachers from Vidyanidhi High school and junior college and Vidyanidhi Info Tech Academy at Vile Parle will go to Nagaland under a teachers' exchange programme. The plan, a brainchild of Nagaland governor Padmanabha Acharya, aims at building bridges through enrichment and cultural exchange.

Art teacher Nitin Gorule, Shailesh Sutar, who teaches science, and Savita Thakur, director of computer department, will be visiting a tribal pocket in the Mon district of the north-eastern state. They will interact with the students between Std V and Std VIII in government schools. As they share their knowledge, the teachers will also learn from the children and locals.

Gorule said, "I am an expert in Warli painting. I will also be showing them Sanskar Bhartiya Rangoli. I will be carrying some equipment and teach them the techniques of making rangoli."

Thakur said, "We have been instructed to build a rapport with them instead of disturbing their curriculum. It will be a kind of give-and-take exercise where we will learn about their culture and teach them about ours. I will be carrying a laptop with me through which I will teach them digital art."

The teachers are being sponsored by Upanagar Shikshan Mandal of which Acharya is the president. The initiative has also been appreciated by the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who tweeted and congratulated the team.

Science teacher Shailesh Sutar said he would be teaching his subject in a fun-filled manner. "I will be carrying a lot of apparatus, CDs with me."

Sanjeev Mantri, chairman of Upanagar Shikshan mandal, said, "This is just the beginning. This type of exchange will continue now. Later, teachers and students from north-east will visit Vidyanidhi and stay with our families to enjoy the brotherhood."
