3 members of Ravi Pujari gang arrested

The Mumbai crime branch on Friday arrested three members of Ravi Pujari gang, who were allegedly planning to eliminate a city-based journalist working for a newspaper. The accused were arrested by the crime branch from the jurisdiction of Marine Drive police station after they got a tip-off from sources. After Pujari's men allegedly fired outside producer Ali Morani's residence a few days back. All the units of Mumbai crime branch have been working overnight to gather intelligence on Pujari and his men. 

Who are the accused? 
According to Mumbai crime branch the arrested accused have been identified as Madanchand Govindram Sonkar alias Francis (27), Ashutosh Narendrakumar Verma (22), and Rambahadur Ramchandra Chauhan (27). “Since the Juhu firing our team has been working to catch the members of on Pujari gang. On the information received, we arrested the three from Marine Drive on Friday evening. We have also recovered one 7.65k revolver and five live rounds along with 11 bogus SIM cards”, said joint commissioner of police (crime) Sadanand Date. Date further added, “The three had brought a second-hand car. For the past three months, the trio were living together in Nallasopara. We are investigating a paper that was recovered, which looks like a map.” 

Why did Pujari gang want to kill the journo? 
According to sources in crime branch, Sonkar, Verma and Chauhan, were directly in touch with Pujari and had a clear instruction to kill the journalist as soon as possible. “We have managed to avoid a major tragedy. We are trying to identify the reason why Pujari would want the journalist killed. We believe that it could have been one of the article written by the journalist, where he mentions that Pujari is not in the big league of gangsters.” 
The Mumbai crime branch also informed that one of the accused is a driver by profession and had worked for many bollywood personalities. "We investigating whether he shared any information about the celebs with Pujari". 

The preliminary investigation revealed
The preliminary investigation revealed that the trio had received around Rs 1.25 lakhs for the job. “We are investigating how the money reached the accused and whether it was hawala or any other source that was used”, said Date. The police will also be investigating whether the arrested accused had any role to play in the firing outside Morani's house in Juhu. Meanwhile, the police have booked Sonkar, Verma and Chauhan under Arms Act, forgery and section 302 of the IPC.
