3 held for kidnapping businessman in June; police yet to trace him

City crime branch sleuths have arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a 65-year-old businessman and demanding ransom from his family. Though the victim was reportedly kidnapped in June this year, he has not been traced yet, the police said.

From where were the suspects arrested?
The suspects were held on Thursday from their respective residences in Badlapur, Karjat and Ambernath. The police are on the lookout for their fourth accomplice. The victim (name withheld) is a resident of GTB Nagar in Sion.

When did victim go missing?
According to the police, on June 3, the victim who was in Mumbai went missing. His wife, Komal, who was in Jodhpur at that time, received phone calls from someone between June 5 and June 11 demanding a ransom of Rs 31 lakh.

Where was the complaint lodged?
"Victim's son then lodged a complaint with the Chaupasani Housing Board police in Jodhpur. Initial inquiries by Jodhpur police revealed that on June 3, two people had kidnapped the victim from near Sion station," said a crime branch source.

"During the course of investigation it was learned that those involved in the kidnapping were in Vangani and Badlapur. Subsequently, they were picked up and arrested. The three have admitted that they had kidnapped the businessman, but the victim has still not been traced," the source said.

Has victim's phone been traced?
Sources in the police said the victim's phone was active till June 13 and it was last located at Chandni Chowk in Delhi. "The accused have told us that they had used the victim's phone and that he had been kidnapped in a vehicle," the officer said.
