A 28-year-old accountant working with a private firm in south Mumbai lost all his savings after an unidentified fraudster used his debit card details to withdraw Rs 50,000 from his bank account.

A case of cheating has been registered in VP Road Police Station. The police suspect that the victim's debit card must have been cloned and skimmed.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, Amol Chikane, he claimed that from the night of February 15 to 16, he received six text alerts from the bank stating that money has been withdrawn from his bank account.

"We have registered a case and suspect that it is a case of card cloning as neither the victim had received any call nor had he shared his card details with anyone. In a smart move, to evade the daily cash withdrawal limit of Rs 25,000, the fraudster withdrew Rs 25,000 before midnight and the other half after midnight," said a police officer from VP road police station.
