A 28-year-old woman, who was undergoing psychiatric treatment, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the 23rd floor of a high-rise in Prabhadevi area, on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Ketaki Gavande, who got married about two months ago, and had done MA in psychology.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 2 pm on Monday when Gawande had gone to her mother's residence at Twin Towers in Prabhadevi. The police said, Gawande had been undergoing psychiatric treatment since the past one year for depression and would continuously feel low. "Gawande had got married around two months ago and lived with her husband at Tardeo, who is an advertising professional. However, she would come to meet her mother daily. At the time of the incident, her mother and household help were at home when she jumped off from the balcony of her house. However, they came to know about the suicide only when Gawande shouted loudly," said Diwakar Shelke, senior Police inspector of Dadar police station.

Upon being informed, police arrived at the spot and immediately rushed her to Sion hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

"We have not found any suicide note from the spot, but prima-facie it appears that the girl ended her life as she was feeling low in life. We have registered an Accidental Death Report in the matter and our probe is on," Shelke added.
