Andheri Police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly molested a 25-year-old woman in the Mumbai Metro by touching her inappropriately and stalking her on Monday.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 7 pm on Monday evening inside the Metro, when the woman was returning home from Metro.
The police said an unknown person touched the woman inappropriately, while she was standing in the Metro. Police said the accused also followed the woman and had fled from the spot by the time she approached the police.
When DNA contacted the woman, she said, "I was returning from my office on Monday and I boarded the Metro from Chakala at around 6:30 pm. I was standing in the metro as there was no vacant seat due to peak hours. A middle-aged man was standing behind me and suddenly as the Metro crossed Sakinaka station, he started pushing himself at me. I initially ignored it, thinking it was due to the crowd, but he continued doing it. That is when I realised he was doing it intentionally.
"To avoid creating a scene, I changed my location but he followed me and again stood behind me, pushing himself at me all the time and touching me," the woman said.
"In another minute the Metro reached Ghatkopar and I got down at the station. I was scared and disturbed. I was just walking when I saw the man was still following me.
"While I was walking, I reported the incident to a policeman standing near the Ghatkopar railway bridge. The man then ran away before the policeman could catch him," she said adding that the police were quite prompt.
When contacted, Pandit Thorat, Senior Police Inspector of Andheri Police station confirmed the case and said the case has been registered and a probe is on. "We are checking the CCTV footage to identify the accused," Thorat said.
