Not just Mumbai, Thane too is reeling from a dengue attack.

On Tuesday, as many as 25 residents of Maitri Tower in Louis wadi area were detected with dengue. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) now plans to investigate the area and society and also check if there are any breeding spots around leading to the spread of the disease in the society.

A TMC official said, "Nowadays, the climate is changing a lot and also, there is lack of administration, which doubles the risk of the disease spreading. At times, people themselves haven't learnt their lesson and don't take precautions despite knowing what they are."

However, a society resident said the under-construction building premises next to theirs is the culprit. "For the ongoing construction, they have a water tank, which they keep open. We have told them about the risks of this, but they haven't done anything about it. That's the reason why so many people here are sick," the resident added.

Junior researcher from Haffkine Institute in Parel Rushil Bhatt said, "We need to keep an eye on open water tanks. They should be covered when not in use. Also, wherever water accumulates, we can put a layer of oil on it as that will stop mosquitoes from breeding."
