24-yr-old man killed in rash driving case

The Versova police are on the lookout for a car driver who mowed down a 24-year-old man at JP road in Andheri on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Raviraj Gaikwad.

According to the police, the incident took place on Friday around 2 am when Gaikwad was heading towards home from JP Road in Andheri. When he reached Aaram Nagar, a speeding car came from behind and mowed him down.

The police said that the car driver did not stop to help, and is untraceable since then. Gaikwad who had sustained severe injuries in the accident was then rushed to a nearby hospital by locals and police.

He succumbed to injuries on Friday evening. The police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence and rash driving against an unknown person.

"We are trying to trace the car driver and have obtained a CCTV footage of the area. However, the registration plate of the car is not readable. We have recorded statements of eyewitness and our probe is on to identify the car driver," said Kiran Kale, Senior Police Inspector of Versova Police station.
