24-yr-old man held after jilted lover alleges rape

The Vile Parle police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old man after his ex-girlfriend filed an FIR alleging rape and cheating against him for refusing to marry her, but tying the knot with another girl. The victim approached the police complaining that accused has cheated her by not marrying her. The accused has been identified as Kiran Shipunde.

According to police, Shipunde and the victim were in a relationship for the last eight years and were residing in the same area.

The accused promised to marry the victim. However, six months ago, he told the complainant that he would have to marry another girl chosen by his parents.

In her complaint, the victim said that Shipunde had allegedly raped her on the pretext of marrying her.

“We have arrested the accused and have charged him under IPC sections of rape and cheating.” said Laxman Chavan, Senior Police Inspector of Vile Parle police station.

Meanwhile, the family of Shipunde claims that he has been falsely implicated in the case as  she was forced to file the complaint by her parents. The accused was produced in the local court on Friday and has been remanded to police custody till May 2.
