A 23-year-old Kalyan woman, who suffered major injuries after she fell off a moving local train on February 8 when a thief hit her on the hand, underwent skin grafting surgery.

Dravita Singh underwent the procedure for a wound on the right foot on Tuesday. According to the doctor, she will take at least four weeks to attempt to walk with a special footwear.

Deepak Singh, a brother of Dravita, said, “She is stable now. There are no further complications in her treatment according to the doctors. We are hoping she will recover soon.”

Dr Shailesh Ranade, plastic surgeon at Bhatia Hospital who is treating Dravita, said, “She has shown good improvement in her right foot wound. Looking at the condition of the wound, we are hopeful that the skin grafts will take well. There is no growth of micro-organisms on wound cultures, which is a positive sign.”

Dravita has undergone five surgeries and a VAC therapy for crush injury of her right foot till now.

Dr Ranade added, “Dravita is slowly coming out of the psychological trauma  and may be discharged in next 10 days.  But she will not be able to walk  immediately. The limb will still be in a plaster. If everything goes well, once the wound gets a good quality skin cover, we will make an attempt to make her walk with the help of special footwear after 3-4 weeks.”
