The Tardeo police on Saturday arrested a 22-year-old youth for allegedly stabbing a woman to death and grievously injuring her husband. The man has been arrested and was put under police custody.

The accused has been identified as Raju Pal, who lived with the victims Vandana Wankhede (28) and Santosh Wankhede (42), in a shared shanty under the Mumbai Central bridge.

All three of them used to work in a nearby juice centre, and the perpetrator, who is originally from Bastar, Chhattisgarh, reportedly developed an affair with Vandana. A month ago, when Vandana's husband, Santosh found about her extra-marital affair with Pal and he kicked Pal out of the shanty.

"Since few days, the accused wanted to come back, but Santosh did not approved of it. Pal was highly frustrated due to this reason. On Saturday, around 1:30am, he confronted Santosh again, demanding that to move back in. Pal and Santosh got into a fight, and Pal, under a fit of rage, stabbed the couple with a knife," said deputy commissioner of police Zone III, S Jayakumar.

Vandana died on the spot, while Santosh is undergoing medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

Pal tried to flee from the scene but was spotted at Mumbai Central station by a constable from Tardeo police station. The constable tried to stop Pal but Pal pushed him and barged inside the station. The constable informed the government railway police constable inside, who arrested Pal and took him into custody. Pal has been charged under sections 302 and 307 on the Indian Penal Code.
