Kandivli police are on the look out for two people who allegedly robbed and murdered a 22-year-old jeweller at Kandivli West on Wednesday. According to the police, both the accused were known to the deceased, and the crime had been plotted beforehand.

On Monday, around 2pm, the deceased, Chandraprakash Sevak, along with his brother, Rajendra, were at their jewellery store, Maa Jewellers in Shivshakti compound. The accused, who run an electric and plumbing business, visited the store to carry out some repair work.

Mahipati Pandharmise, senior PI, Kandivli police, said: "The Sevak brothers as well as the suspects lived in the same area in Malwani, and were friends for the last three years. They had come to the store for undertaking some repair work around 1pm when both the brothers were present. The four had lunch together around 2pm, after which Rajendra left the store."

"When Chandraprakash did not return home at night, Rajendra went to check on him at the store around 11:30pm and found his throat slit and gold and silver jewellery from the store missing. He immediately informed the police, and Kandivli police registered a case of murder and robbery."

Police believe the offense took place immediately after Rajendra had left the store. "Gold and silver jewellery worth Rs11.72 lakh have gone missing. We have launched a manhunt for the two. We suspect they have fled the city," added Pandharmise.

The store is equipped with CCTV cameras. However, the accused fled with the digital video recording box of the CCTV, leaving no evidence. The suspects are said to be in their 30s.
