A 20-year-old man, who was traveling by a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's clean up van died after the vehicle was hit by a speeding trailer on Monday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Rizvan Shaikh. a cleaner of BMC.
According to the police, the incident took place around 4:30 pm on Monday when Shaikh was seated beside the driver of the vehicle. Near the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link road, when the cleanup van was taking right turn, a speeding trailer came from behind and hit the van injuring Shaikh fatally. The police said, Shaikh had sustained a severe head injury and was immediately rushed to nearby hospital. However he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
The driver of the trailer fled from the spot,"We have registered a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence. The victim was a friend of the driver and would come to help him. They were going home when the incident took place. We are trying to trace the vehicle that hit the van," said a police officer from Tilak Nagar police station.
