Over 20 people were arrested on Monday, including Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader, who had gathered at Chakala, Andheri east, to protest in front of Ola headquarters. The arrested accused include MNS leader Nitin Nandgaonkar, whose video of breaking the glass of a taxi at Nehru Nagar, Kurla, went viral on social media.

Three separate cases have been registered by the MIDC Police, Nehru Nagar Police and Airport Road Police stations.

According to the police, extra personnel were deployed in certain areas taking into account the Ola and Uber drivers' strike and the possibility of hooliganism during the same. Notices of section 149 of CrPC were issued by the police to Sanjay Naik, president; Arif Shaikh and Nitin Nandgaokar of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena, as preventive action.

The police said some MNS workers and taxi drivers vandalised a number of cars outside the domestic airport, which led to the shutdown of Ola and Uber counters, causing inconvenience to flyers landing the city.

"We have arrested 16 persons including Nandgaonkar and have booked them under unlawful assembly and other relevant sections. There was no damage to public or private property in Chakala," said N Reddy, deputy commissioner of police (zone 9).
