Two girls and a 45-year-old woman drowned in a pond in Dahanu after one of them slipped into the water and the others went to save her. The Kasa police fished out the bodies with the help of the fire brigade department.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of March 5 when 11-year-old Nisha Bhoye and her sister Neha, 13, from Dhundal village had gone to a nearby pond to beat the heat. Unfortunately, Nisha slipped into the deeper end of the pond.

To save her sister, Neha jumped into the water, but she started drowning. As the girls were waving hands, seeking help, their neighbour Devki Surum, who was standing on the bank, decided to plunge into the water. Surum too drowned.

"We were informed by the villagers of Girnar Wadi about three bodies floating in the pond. We fished out them and sent the bodies for post-mortem at Sub District Hospital in Kasa. The bodies were handed over the families later," said an official from Kasa police.

The official added, "We have registered a case of accidental death in this regard as there was allegation of any foul play."
