In a shocking case, a 1993 Mumbai bomb blast under trial assaulted an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) attached with Local Arms (LA) division of Mumbai police, outside Arthur Road jail on Tuesday. The policeman was escorting the accused to a special TADA court for a hearing in the case.

On Tuesday, ASI Anup Dange attached with the LA 2 was on under trail escort duty. At around 1:30 pm, 1993 bomb blast under trial Feroz Rashid Khan (45) who was being escorted, got into an altercation with Dange. "Khan was being escorted to the court by Dange and as a normal procedure the accused is frisked by the policeman before being escorted to the court. The trouble started when Khan refused to be frisked”, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) S Jayakumar.

Khan allegedly got furious on being frisked by Dange and told him that there was no need of any frisking. “Dange was abused by Khan, who told him not to frisk him. There was a heated argument between them and it was then that Khan pushed Dange and assaulted him”,said DCP Jayakumar. He added further “ luckily there was no serious injuries to the officer and he was taken to the hospital for treatment”.

The NM Joshi Marg police station, under whose jurisdiction Arthur Road jail is located has registered an FIR against Khan. Khan was booked for section 353 ( Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duties), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duties) of the Indian Penal Code.
