1.82 lakh employed in Maharashtra, thanks to skill development courses, says E Ravindran

Life of 1.82 lakh unemployed in the state have changed after availing training in skills of their choices. A total of 3.5 lakh unemployed were imparted training in one of the 2,200-odd employment-oriented courses by Skill Development Department and of these at least 1.82 lakh have started making an earning.

Maharashtra State Skill Development Society Commissioner E Ravindran said when state government started late Pramod Mahajan memorial Skill Development Scheme way back in September 2015, there were 35 institutions registered with 100 to 150 students availing training from them on an average. He said by end-July, there were around 4,000 organisations registered for providing training to eligible students between the age group of 15 and 45 years.

He said through training in more than 2,200 courses, around 3.5 lakh students have been trained and 1.82 lakh have already are employed by using those skill sets. He said after imparting training through registered organisations, candidate is given opportunity for one to two months and then monitored for 6 months.

Ravindran said the district-level teams physically conduct checking of the organisations and institutions before their registration for imparting training. Enrollment of the student and payment towards training for every student is done online.

The amount paid is between Rs. 30 and 46 per hour per student and before providing training to any student, his or her Aadhaar ID is checked and there are bio-metric systems for attendance have been deployed at registered institutions and organisations. He said the government reimburses Rs 17,000 per student.

Ravindran informed that state Government has put forward a proposal based on state's capacity in this field to train 1.67 lakh employable youngsters through Centrally sponsored state managed schemes. For this state has sought Rs. 257 crore from the Union Government.
