In a shocking incident, a six-month-old girl was sexually assaulted by an 18-year-old boy at his Shivaji Nagar residence in Govandi on Tuesday morning.

“The 18-year-old boy is a resident of Mhada colony in Shivaji Nagar and is a rag picker,” said Radheshyam Agarwal, senior inspector of Shivaji Nagar police station.

The victim and the accused are neighbours. The incidetn took place around 11.30am on Tuesday, when the younger sister of the accused took their baby to her house so she could play with her.

However, when the baby had not been returned even an hour later, her anxious grandmother went to the house of the accused to bring the infant back.

When no one opened the door, the grandmother pushed the door open and entered the neighbour’s house. There, she found the baby sleeping and took her home.

Once home, she discovered several bite marks all over the baby’s body. Suspecting foul play, the victim’s family then approached the Shivaji Nagar police. The infant was  rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for a check-up, and boy was arrested after the reports confirmed sexual assault.

A medical superintendent of Rajawadi hospital said, “The 6 month old has multiple bite marks all over her body. She was bleeding due to vaginal tear, which is now under control.

She is stable and on medication.”

“The boy has been booked under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 8 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012,” said inspector Agarwal.

He added that the boy will be sent to Nagpada police hospital for a medical check-up.
