150 women to take part in Ultra Marathon

From among the 500 participants, this year 150 women will be participating as compared to last year's 50.

More than double the number of women will be running in this year's 'The Mumbai Ultra - 12 Hour Run'. This is the fourth year of the marathon, and it will be held on August 13. Participants will have to run for 12 hours straigh. Like every year, the 12-km route will be Shivaji Park-Worli Sea Face-Mela restaurant and back. Participants need to keep running the loop from 5 am to 5 pm.

From among the 500 participants, this year 150 women will be participating as compared to last year's 50.

"We had to stop the registration at 500 due to logistical constraints," said Naveen Hegde, volunteer at Shivaji Park Ultra Marathon Club, a leading marathon runner's group which is one of the organisers, but prefer saying that it is organised by Mumbai's Runners.

Besides women, there will be people from armed forces and also two 70-year-olds who will run to spread the message of 'Wellness over Illness', which is the motto of the run. "The idea is to make a point to youngsters that they stay fit," said Sushi Shah, 72, who will participate in the marathon.
