A 15-year-old boy was brutally assaulted by seven people for about 10 minutes with hockey sticks, beer bottles and knives outside his school in Malwani on Sunday.

The incident happened around 1:30 pm outside a BMC school near the fire brigade office in Malwani.

Shahid Khan (15), a Class X student, has been admitted to the Shatabdi hospital with multiple injuries on the head, arms, stomach and legs.

“They beat him black and blue outside the school premises. He couldn’t resist as they were a bigger group and stronger than him. He has injuries all over the body,” Hussain Ahmed, one of the uncles of the victim, said.

What led to the assault was a minor tiff Khan and his friend Arshad had with one of their classmates, Arvind, inside the classroom. Following this, Arvind called a few of his friends from the neighbourhood and they beat up both the boys. “Shahid (the victim) is extremely scared after the incident. His classmate has targeted him several times before also. His injuries will heal, but we are worried about his mental health,” his uncle said.

Shahid’s relatives alleged that about seven boys waited outside the school for the boys to come out.

When Shahid stepped out,  the seven assaulted him. The victim was allegedly stabbed once and hit on the head and legs with sticks and bottles. According to the police, the accused, in the 17-19 age bracket, belonged to Marve Road, Malwani, and were local goons.

A police officer said, “We have recorded Khan’s statement. The altercation occurred over a trivial issue. We are speaking to his classmates to ascertain the reason.”

Hussain said, “The boys who assaulted Shahid had come to his residence on Friday. However, one of them informed the others that Shahid was not the boy they were looking for, after which they left.”

An FIR has been registered under Sections 326, 323 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code. The victim lives with his parents in Marve Road and his father runs a bakery.
