A 14-year-old boy from Sanpada, Navi Mumbai, died on Saturday morning of injuries sustained during a fall from a dahi handi human pyramid six days ago.

Kiran Gopal Talkiri was practising for a dahi handi human pyramid, along with a couple of other children from his neighbourhood, at sector 5 last Sunday when he fell. He had no external injuries and he did not tell his parents anything.

On Monday, he complained of chest pain but his parents did not take him seriously because they were not aware of the incident. After getting to know of it from his friends on Wednesday, they took him to Terna hospital in Nerul.

"We were told that he should be admitted to the ICU... but we could not do because of financial constraints. We brought him back home and put him on medicines, which the doctor had prescribed," Ashwini Talkiri, the boy's mother, said.

On Friday, he started vomiting. He was bleeding from the nose too. His parents took him to another private hospital in Nerul but did not get him admitted. On Saturday morning, they got him admitted to NMMC hospital in Vashi. He died soon after.

An investigation is on and the police have registered a case of accidental death. Cops are waiting for his post-mortem report.
