14-yr-old drives dad's car over pedestrian at Kandivli

A teenager, driving his father's car, knocked down and killed a pedestrian on the Link Road in Kandivli (West) around midnight on Saturday.

The Kandivli police said, the victim, Siyaram Yadav was waiting at the Laljipada junction to cross the road, when he was hit by the Wagon R vehicle.

"The boy apparently saw the man trying to cross the road, then step back to avoid the car, and he lost control of the vehicle," said a police official.

Yadav suffered serious injuries and he was bleeding. He was taken to Shatabdi hospital, where he succumbed at about 6am, the official said. The body has been sent to Bhagwati hospital for postmortem. Yadav worked at the petrol pump at Laljipada.

The boy, aged 14, was brought by his father to the police station, where a case was registered under sections 279, 338 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. The family resides in Charkop.

"We have also filed charges against the father for allowing a person without a licence to drive his vehicle," said Hareshwar Pimple, senior inspector, Kandivli police station.

The boy, who studies in class VIII, was subjected to a medical test, but there was no evidence that he consumed alcohol, the police said. He has been sent to the Dongri observation home.
