14 cessed buildings in South Mumbai have been marked as 'Most Dangerous' by Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) during its pre-monsoon survey for this year. Furthermore, the state government has plans to discontinue the collection of cess from a majority of these structures of the island city of Mumbai.

On Friday, Prakash Mehta, minister of housing, made the list of most dangerous buildings public, of which three buildings were carried forward from last year's list. Last year, there were eight structures in the most dangerous buildings pre-monsoon survey list.

The iconic Esplanade mansion has been in the said list for the fourth consecutive year. Esplanade mansion, formerly called Watson Hotel, near Kala Ghoda, is the first cast iron building of Mumbai, and is nearly 150 years old.
In the island city of Mumbai, there are a total of 19,642 cessed buildings.

"We will be vacating these buildings and the tenants will be shifted to transit camps so that their lives are not in danger during monsoon," said Mehta.

Mehta did not confirm whether forcible evictions would happen if tenants are reluctant in vacating the property. However, an official said that that would be the only solution left with to save their lives.

Mehta also shared that the state government has plans to come up with a policy wherein collection of cess by MBRRB will be discontinued. This plan will affect 7,000-8,000 cessed buildings of South Mumbai.

If this happens, it will also pave way for redevelopment of buildings through a lesser number of clearances.

On Friday, state housing minister Prakash Mehta gave the nod for slum dwellers to produce one of the seven approved documentary proof to get change of user name registered with the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. This would be applicable for slums that have been regularised, or till cut-off date of 1/1/2000.
