From an administrative officer to a peon of the B ward in South Mumbai — fourteen employees of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) — have set an example for their fellow staff. In a commendable effort, they all cleared the final exam in Master of Arts (MA) in Marathi, which was held in May 2017.

Two months ago, 23 conservancy workers of the same ward had cleared the school secondary examination (SSC). By clearing the examination, the staff have improved their chances of promotion and salary hike.

However, this mean feat was not easy to achieve as many of them went back to studying after a gap of 20 to 30 years. Anil Chavan, assistant commissioner (complaint redressal) at B ward who cleared the MA exam, said, "I completed my graduation in 1990, and again in 2015, I decided to do MA in Marathi," said Chavan.
