Soham Ghodke always knew he would write a book, but he didn't ever think that it would come about this soon. Yes, Soham, a 13-year-old boy from Saket in Thane, has penned his first but not the last novel — Wars of Octavelon — which was published by an American publisher last month. The book is now available in the US, the UK and India.

Soham is now a celebrity among his family members and relatives. His science fiction was published by Partridge Publishers on April 22. This class IX student of DAV School, Thane, says that he had been harbouring this ambition of writing a book for the past five years. "Being an avid reader, I knew that I wanted to write one day," says Soham.

Brought up on a diet of Harry Potter series, Game of Thrones and other such books, he says that it was quite natural for him to write a fiction. "A year back, I got the idea for Wars of Octavelon where two scientists enter a quantum imaginary world and create a lot of chaos," he narrates. And thus, he started working on it laboriously every evening.

Soham gave up watching television programmes and wrote religiously from 10pm to 11pm. "I managed my studies and sacrificed watching TV to write my book," he added.

Though his book was ready last year, it took him time to get it published. "After I read the book, I thought it should be on stands and so we started approaching publishers," says Soham's uncle Sanjay Ghodke, who stays in Pune.

"We came across this US publisher and corresponded with them for the book," says Anil Ghodke, father of Soham.

As the book was handwritten, and thus, they had to get it typed as the publisher asked for a soft copy. The process of correspondence, correction, editing took three months and it is now that the book is finally out. "The book's cover has also been kept modern and chosen by Soham. He wants not only kids but even adults and senior citizens to read his book and be inspired," says Anil.

While the Ghodke family is celebrating this success, Soham is now on to planning his next book in this three-part series. "It is a trilogy, and may be, if my books clicks, then I will take up writing as my profession. Otherwise, I will study to become an IAS officer," he informed.
