With Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday approving the town planning scheme to implement a 129 km ring road project worth Rs 17,412 crores around Pune city, Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) is poised for planned development.

The PMRDA meeting held at Varsha Bungalow — official residence of Chief Minister in Mumbai — also decided to provide 4 FSI (floor space index) on both sides of the proposed ring road. The ring road is being planned in two phases and the first will have a four-lane road with two lanes for to and from traffic. Both phases will be completed in the next seven years.

With the approval, the PMRDA will be able to make available 5,000 hectares of land for housing for weaker sections and will pave way for construction of two lakh houses in the PMRDA region leading to a planned development.

Guardian Minister Girish Bapat, Pune city Mayor Mukta Tilak, Pimpri-chinchwad Mayor Nitin Kalje and officials from Mantralaya and PMRDA, Pune Municipal Corporation were present.

Guardian Minister Girish Bapat said that the project will require 1,430 hectares of land and land from 58 villages of four talukas of Haveli, Maval, Mulshi and Khed. He stated that the land acquisition would not be a problem after the approval of the town planning scheme in Thursday's meeting.

First phase will involve work on four lanes including two lanes each for ingress and egress traffic, construction of a 3.75 km tunnel, six bridges and construction of roads in the townships and street lights.

Second phase will include work on an eight-lane road including four lanes each for egress and ingress traffic along with cycle tracks on both the sides, footpaths, eight flyovers, three railway flyovers and internal roads of townships.
