In a further embarrassment to the Mumbai police, the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the crime branch on Tuesday recovered around 12 kg of a crystal translucent material, suspected to be drugs, from the locker of constable posted Dharmaraj Kalokhe, posted at the Marine Drive station.

Kalokhe was arrested on Monday by the Satara police, after they seized 110 kg of Mephedrone from his residence at Khandala taluka in Satara.

Though the ANC first received the tip-off that Kalokhe possessed the contraband, its team which raided his residence could not find any drug. However, the Satara police recovered it from Kalokhe's second residence.

On Monday, he was arrested after the Satara police raided his residence in Kanheri village and seized MD, popularly known as meow meow and M-cat valued, worth crores of rupees.

Kalokhe was produced before a local court, which remanded him in police custody till March 16.

"We suspected that Kalokhe must be having more drugs and broke his station locker. We found 12 packets of a crystal translucent substance, each weighing 1 kg and Rs 10,000 in cash from his locker. The seizure procedure has been videographed so that it has evidential value in court. Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria has already passed an order to dismiss Kalokhe from service," said additional commissioner, south region, Krishna Prakash.

The police suspect that Kalokhe could be part of a drug cartel operating in Mumbai.

"We are investigating whether Kalokhe used his Satara residence as a warehouse to keep the contraband or whether he kept it there due to the fear of being caught after the drug was brought under the NDPS Act. Since a police station locker is the safest place and cannot be checked by anyone, he would have kept the suspected contraband there," said an ANC officer.
