In accordance with Civic chief Sanjeev Jaiswal's order to free the city of illegal hoardings, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) removed 1159 hoardings in the past two days. Maximum of them were found in Mumbra, where the TMC pulled down a total number of 581 hoardings.
"Moreover cases were lodged at various city police stations against 65 people for putting up illegal banners and hoardings without our permission," said Sandeep Malvi, Public Relation Officer, Thane.
Apart from a huge number of hoardings in Mumbra, 230 hoardings in Railadevi ward, 107 in Wagle Estate area, 61 in Naupada, 81 in Kalwa, 34 in Uthalsar, 28 in Majiwada-Manpada, 19 in Vartaknagar and 18 in Lokmanya-Savarkar nagar were found.
The TMC's action was in accordance to a Bombay High Court (HC) order asking all the municipal corporations in the state to start a special drive from December 5 last year to remove all the illegal hoardings across the city before January 26.
