Around 1,100 students from Brahman Shikshan Mandal's Maharashtra Vidyalaya organised a rally on Tuesday evening to create awareness about water conservation. The school is celebrating its golden jubilee year and has planned various activities and creating awareness about issues that affect society is one of them.

Students started walking from their school around 4pm toward Dagdi School, Brahman Vidyalaya, Dr Chitnis Hospital Chintamani Chowk, Talaopali, Gadkari Rangaytan and through New English School, ending at Maharashtra Vidyalaya.

This was part of their three series rally. "In September, we had raised the issue about saving environment, followed by women empowerment and female foeticide in December and concluded it by spreading awareness on water conservation. This move will have an effect on young minds who are a part of the rally. Also, motorists and pedestrians who noticed the rally came to know about the importance of conserving water," said Kedhar Joshi, secretary, Maharashtra Vidyalaya.

Children were excited as they shouted slogans and carried placards that mentioned the significance of water conservation. Few girls dressed in traditional Maharashtrian attire performed lezhim. The school has been conducting various programmes like teacher and principal training courses, apart from various competitions and activities, for students.

"We were so excited about the rally that we started preparing banners a month in advance; few of my classmates got along with the teachers to prepare slogans. Our teachers have been explaining the importance of water conservation since the last few days," said Anagha Dalvi, a student of Maharashtra Vidyalaya.
