An 11-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three people in Dahisar (East) over the past one month. The incident came to light when the girl narrated the incident to her mother recently.

What would the accused do?

According to the police, one of the accused, Mangesh Kambli, 30, used to take her to his house in the neighbourhood and show her pornographic videos. He would then call his accomplices, Ajay Tari, 20 and Nilesh Pawar, 19, and then sexually assault her.

Have the accused been arrested?

The police have arrested two of the accused. Both Kambli and Tari have been arrested by the police. Pawar is still at large. Kambli is a professional driver.

Why did the survivor not report it before?

An officer from Dahisar police station said, "The girl in her statement told the police that she was repeatedly assaulted in the same way by them several times in the past. The trio used to threaten her of dire consequences if she revealed it to anybody. When the girl's mother quizzed her on Sunday, she revealed the incident to her. The mother then immediately approached the police."

What are the cops doing now?

The girl has been sent for medical examination and reports are awaited. The Dahisar police have booked the three accused for gang rape and criminal intimidation under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
