A 10ft-long Indian rock python was rescued by an animal lover from a society in Vaishali Nagar, Mulund, on Monday, after residents spotted it lurking near the complex wall.

Romil Nathwani, 25, reached Vaishali Tower at around 10.45 pm. According to him, the python had probably come from the nearby factory area. With little effort, he took coaxed the reptile out, much to the relief of the society residents. The python was later handed over to the Mumbai range forest department.

Ankit Ruparel, a resident from Vaishali tower, said, "I called up Romil for help and he reached within a few minutes. By then, the entire society had gathered to catch a glimpse of the python. It had hidden in a corner by the time Ankit arrived. When he got it out, we were shocked by its size. I could not believe what I was seeing. We feel safer now that the python has been taken from our society."

"I often get calls from that area, but this time the python was huge enough and its was a female. It might have come out to eat and was exposed to human habitat. When the society residents came down and saw me, the look of relief on their faces was quite evident. They clapped as I got the snake out. My main aim is to ensure that whatever happens, no animal should get hurt. I have been involved in animals rescues for the past many years."
