Around 100 first year and second year students of Bachelor of Mass Media from Kirti college boycotted their unit test exam of 20 marks after the credit-based semester and grading system 75/25 (external/internal) was introduced this year for undergraduate program by University of Mumbai (MU).

After the MU scrapped the 60/40 (external/internal) credit-based semester and grading system for students of MU for undergraduate program, they decided to introduce 75/25 (external/internal) this academic year.

In the scheme of examination, the performance of the learners is evaluated into two components. The learner's performance shall have internal assessment with 25% marks in the first component by conducting the semester-end examinations with 75% marks in the second component.

Abhishek Shinde, one of the BMM student, said, "We students boycotted the exam today because we are not happy with the 75/25 marking system. We are BMM students and we should be allowed to do documentary, short film etc for 20 marks internal exam, instead of holding theory exam. We will check with other college students of BMM and are going to protest to MU requesting them to change the pattern for us. We cannot benefit from the 20 marks theory like the science students does by giving practical exam."

Dr. V N Magare, principal of Kirti, said, "The students should not have boycotted their exam. If they had any issue, they should have approached the teachers, coordinators or University officials before the exam. After giving one exam yesterday (Friday), they suddenly boycotted today's paper. Other colleges have conducted their exams, which means theír students have accepted the pattern of theory for internal exam. Though it is not acceptable by the students, the pattern must have been done by authorities looking at the way students delay in submitting their projects in internal exams. We have informed the University about this development."
