Ten private players have envisaged interest in setting up a food court at the proposed Urban Plaza in Bandra-Kurla Complex.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had held pre-bid meeting with the interested parties on May 15, wherein the 10 players had turned up with their queries.

The Urban Plaza will have a restaurant, shops and supermarkets at the junction of the business district of Bandra-Kurla Complex and the Asian Heart Hospital.

The development authority had floated tenders for the same earlier this month with an aim to offer patrons eateries as well as a market at a stone's throw away from offices.

"Our idea is to provide all kinds of products in the business district so that office-goers can purchase groceries or essentials the moment they leave work and before heading home," said an MMRDA official.

At the moment, the business district does not have any market for groceries. In fact, office-goers at BKC have to either rely on expensive food joints of international repute or travel to far-off locations like Kalanagar or Vakola for reasonably priced meals. This also showcases lack of holistic planning done by the authorities around a decade ago.

As per the plans, the Urban Plaza will have 11 shops on the ground floor and a restaurant on the first floor, whereas the floors from second to fourth will have supermarkets providing essentials under one roof.
