10-day-old baby girl found abandoned in Bhiwandi

A 10-day-old baby girl was found abandoned near a clinic shop within the jurisdiction of Bhiwandi rural police station in Bhiwandi. The incident took place on January 19 in the afternoon hours when a passer-by spotted the baby crying. He alerted the police officials, who sent the girl to IGM hospital.

After taking the passers-by statement, the Bhiwandi rural police lodged the case under section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it) of the Indian Penal Code on unknown parents. No arrest has been made so far and investigation is on.

A cop said, "The baby girl was found during the day and we trying to trace the parents. We have also alerted other police stations and are investigating with the hospital and maternity homes too."
