On January 27, 1963, Lata Mangeshkar sang the iconic song Ae Mere Vatan Ke Logon..., penned by Kavi Pradeep and set to music by C Ramchandra, at the Ram Leela Maidan in Delhi in the presence of Jawaharlal Nehru in the aftermath of the Sino-India war. The song, which moved Nehru to tears, was in the memory of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in the war.

And now, after 50 years, one lakh people will sing that patriotic song in unison in the presence of Lata Mangeshkar and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at an event organised by Lodha Foundation and Shahid Gaurav Samiti on January 27 at 6.30 pm at the Mahalaxmi racecourse ground. “Lata Mangeshkar herself will not sing but witness the mega event to mark the golden jubilee of the inspirational song,” chairman of the Foundation Mangal Prabhat Lodha, MLA, said on Friday. Modi will felicitate the families of war heroes. Many celebrities and national figures along with one lakh people are expected to sing the song which is aimed at rejuvenating the ethos of nationalism, Lodha explained.

According to Shahid Gaurav Samiti’s general secretary Anuradha Gore, over 100 Param Veer Chakra, Mahaveer Chakra and other gallantry award-winners will be felicitated along with their families on the occasion.
