The police teams on the tail of absconding owners of the 1 Above pub have learned that the three accused were hiding at the Juhu residence of the arrested accused Vishal Kariya for three days after the incident, which killed 14 people. On Wednesday, Kariya was remanded to police custody by the Bhoiwada court until January 17.

According to police, Kariya was arrested red-handed before disposing off the car, MH 14 EP 535, belonging to one of the accused Abhijit Mankar. The car was parked at Kariya's residence. Moreover, the absconding accused Kripesh Sanghvi, Jigar Sanghvi and Mankar were allegedly hiding at Kariya's residence at Riveira building in Juhu in Vile Parle for three days.

The custody was sought to for further interrogation and to collect CCTV footage from Kariya's residence. Public prosecutor Sanjay Wadhawane also informed the court that Kariya was in touch with the accused despite the Mumbai police declaring a reward of Rs 1 lakh to whoever gives information about the absconding accused.

Advocate Virendra Khot, defence counsel, "The police have made Kariya an accused in the First Information Report (FIR) which has Sections 304 (culpable homicide amounting to murder) and 216 (Harbouring offender who has escaped from custody or whose apprehension has been ordered) of the Indian Penal Code. From which section 304 IPC is not at all applicable. While my client is innocent and the police investigations will further reveal about the role of my client and we will be countering their claims."

"Kariya should have informed the police agencies about the absconding accused rather than harbouring the criminals. Kariya in his statement to the police has claimed that he does not read newspapers and was not aware of the reward declared by the Mumbai police", said Wadhawane.

A senior police officer privy to investigations said, "Kariya is not co-operating during the interrogation and is changing his statements. He has admitted that the three accused stayed at his residence after the incident. He had knowledge about their whereabouts."
