A professor and a chartered accountant, Nidhi Gupta killed herself along with her children — a seven-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter— a day before her wedding anniversary.

A week after his wife Nidhi jumped from the roof of their 19-storey apartment building in Mumbai, Pawan Gupta was arrested for allegedly harassing Nidhi for dowry.

A professor and a chartered accountant, Nidhi killed herself along with her children —a seven-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter— a day before her wedding anniversary. The couple, who had been married for 10 years, were having problems due to Pawan’s bad habits.

Nidhi time and again dissuaded her father Bimal Jalan from intervening in matter thinking that it would only jeopardise her marriage further.

Do you think such incidents point to a breakdown in communication within families? Or is it sheer indifference and unwillingness to address serious problems? Is suicide a solution? How can one address and avoid such situations?
