What’s your story? “I don’t have one,” you say. Oh, that’s not true. Everyone has a story. “Where do I look for one,” you ask. “Your favourite tastes, images, smells and sounds—your senses tell you a story.” This post on Kommune, a recently launched storytelling platform, is the answer to your question.
Nurturing art
Founded by media personalities and westcoast residents Roshan Abbas (Versova), Ankur Tiwari and Gaurav Kapur from Bandra, Kommune is a place where creative performance art ideas are seeded, nurtured, funded and supported until they find their place in the world. “In most of the conferences we’ve attended recently, a lot of conversations were about digital start-ups. We think creatively and therefore thought of starting something in the performing art space. Also, in the digital world we live in, everyone ‘likes’ a post or tweets about a thought but what are we physically doing about it? So, we thought of creating a space to leverage the digital for the physical world.”
The storytellers
Having taken the idea beyond Mumbai, Kommune has had up to seven story-telling workshops and performances in Mumbai, Pune and Jaipur and will be heading to Bengaluru soon. The storytellers range from seasoned television anchors like Mini Mathur and Sandhya Mridul to students from media colleges across the country, sharing their personal, candid stories with listeners.
Venue partner Tanvi Mehra and founder of Tangerine Arts Studio said, “Building a sense of community is what we, at Tangerine, keep striving for ever since our launch last year. And Kommune will be an interesting platform for people to share their stories. Besides, tuning in to listen to stories being shared is something productive to do over the weekend.” Want to listen in to how people stumbled upon their stories? Join the Kommune community and keep your ears to the ground. You never know…you might just find your story.
