How do you plan to tackle communal problems?
We will take action against anti-social elements. The police will monitor sensitive areas closely. Police stations have been directed to meet mohalla committee members and see to it that peace and communal harmony is maintained. There will be adequate police presence on roads.

A large turnout is expected on Wednesday for Ganesh immersion...
We have installed extra CCTV cameras to ensure that roads are safe. Bomb disposal teams will be present at important immersion points.

Any leads on the two terrorists?
We think they are still in the city as all entry and exit points have been sealed. Since we received the alert during the festival season, it was important to increase surveillance. We are trying to find them.

Do you think the Delhi firing incident was the handiwork of the Indian Mujahideen?
It is clear that terrorists were involved. The intention was clear: to create problems ahead of the Common Wealth Games. In a meeting with central agencies sometime ago, I had expressed my feeling that anti-social elements might create some problems ahead of the CWG.

Any directives for citizens?
Please don’t create panic. The police is there for your safety. If you notice anything suspicious, inform the police. On the day of immersion, people should leave for their homes immediately after the immersion is over.
