Irked by the elderly's refusal to transfer property in her name, she decided to execute the murder with her bro's help.

A 65-year-old woman was suffocated and strangled to death by her relatives at Ketkipada, Dahisar (East), on Wednesday.

Two people barged into victim Krishnabai Kolhe’s house around midnight and killed her.  The accused are Kolhe’s daughter-in-law Seema Mohite, 36, and her brother Santosh Ingle. “The woman, who was a widow, was being harassed by her adopted son Santosh Mohite and his wife Seema,” said Ansar Pirjade, senior police inspector of Dahisar police station.

“Over the last few months, they had been demanding that she transfer her house in Ketkipada in Santosh and Seema’s name. The woman transferred all her property to her adopted son. This did not go down well with Seema as she is his second wife,” he said.

“Seema feared that she would be thrown out of the house. So she threatened the old woman to transfer a part of the property in her name which the Kolhe did not agree to,” he added.

Seema called her brother, Santosh, from Beed. Both went to Kolhe’s house and suffocated and strangled her to death.

While Seema has been booked for murder, her brother is absconding. “Her adopted son has no role in the murder. Investigations are on,” said a police officer.
