Doctors in Nalasopara downed clinic shutters on Wednesday after a policeman allegedly assaulted a doctor in a case of mistaken identity. They said the police were reluctant to register an offence against the “errant” cop.

On Monday, sub-inspector Shriram Tugave allegedly thrashed Dr Ashok Chandravali Yadav in his s clinic at Nalasopara.

Tugave thought it was Dr Yadav who had injected a wrong medicine to a 25-year-old, leading to his death. However, it turned out that the doctor who administered the injection was a namesake – AR Yadav.

On Tuesday, the Nalasopara Doctors’ Forum demanded that an offence be registered against sub-inspector Tugave.

However, a doctor who is associated with the forum said that the police had refused to register a complaint, which spurred them to shut down their clinics. He added that they would not resume work till the police registered the offence.

Dr Ashok Yadav said that his statement had been recorded with the deputy superintendent of police of Thane (rural) district.

Deputy superintendent Deepak Devraj told DNA that a departmental inquiry had been conducted against Tugave.
