Woman gang-raped near Matunga railway station, 7 held

Accused thrashed victim's husband with sticks.

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by seven men in her house located near Matunga railway station early Saturday morning.

The victim, who first approached the Dadar railway police, on Saturday morning, registered a complaint against five unknown men and two people known to her husband, identified as Sidhu and Anup. She told the police that she was forced to have unnatural sex with them.

The victim told the police in her statement that in the evening, one of the accused who is known to her husband had come to their house. After a brief conversation, the accused got into a verbal feud with the victim’s husband.

According to the complainant, it was around 11.30pm on Friday that the same man along with six others came to her shanty, while she and her husband were sleeping. The gang barged inside the victim’s house. While some of the accused took her husband outside and thrashed him with bamboo sticks, the others threatened the victim against raising an alarm.

Following this, the seven men raped her in turn. Her ordeal began around 11.45pm and went on till 1.15am.

Dadar railway police senior inspector, Prakash Kirdat, said, “The victim has registered a complaint against seven men. She has named two of the accused, who she claims are known to her husband. We registered an FIR and the case has been transferred to the Matunga police. Further probe into the case will conducted by the Matunga police.”

The accused have been booked under various sections of the IPC including 376 (g) (gang rape), 377 (unnatural offences) and 506 (criminal intimidation). A manhunt has been launched to the trace the seven accused.
